Included with EDA's 52 fields of UCC market intelligence is a field named EQTVALUE (or Equipment Value). The Equipment Value field provides users with a "ballpark" value of the equipment. If this field is populated, it includes an actual value less than 3% of the time. So, that means 97% of the time, the value is an estimated value.
Actual Value- Based on actual equipment value listed on the UCC-1 filing (less than 2.7% overall). Below is a breakdown of actual value by industry.
| Agriculture 1.2% | ||
| Construction 2.2% | ||
| Lift Trucks 4% | ||
| Machine Tools 7.4% | ||
| Trucking (Trucks 6% and Trailers 2.7%) | ||
| Woodworking 7.3% |
Estimated Value - If the actual value is not available, and EDA has established an estimated table for that product family (ie. eqt code), then the field will be populated with EDA's estimated value. EDA recommends this value only be utilized for ballpark purposes. For many lower volume equipment types, EDA has not established estimated tables. As a result, the field will often be blank.
How does EDA determine the estimated value? Using the following four classifications, EDA segments the equipment into size categories, and assigns each piece of equipment within that category the exact same estimated value:
1. New or Used
2. Year of Manufacturer
3. Equipment Category (EQTCODE)
4. Size (EQTSZ)
For example, all "New", "Loader Backhoes", manufactured in "2008", of a specific horsepower range would receive the exact same estimated value.
To develop our estimated value assignments, EDA has used a combination of published values, auction guides, actual selling prices gathered from UCC-1 filings, telephone survey work, asking values from trade-magazines, internet published MSRP, and statistical modeling.
EDA's intent is to provide a value representing the order of magnitude a machine represents, not an exact value for a specific manufacturer/model combineation (not a Blue Book for Equipment). These values are more suited to be used in aggregating the date for market share and fleet value purposes.
Note: For those EQTVALUE fields that are populated, the field EQTAE will show whether the values is "A" actual or "E" estimated.
